Katie Morgan (flautist)
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."

Katie Morgan
MA, BMus(Hons), LRSM

Born in Carmarthenshire, Wales, Katie Morgan is an international concert flautist, and Trevor James International Flutes Artist. Kate is the founder and director of London Flute Tuition.
When a knee injury ended her dancing career at the age of 14, Kate embarked on what was to be an exciting and successful music career. Learning the piano at the age of 14, and flute at the age of 16; Katie achieved grade 8 distinction, within just six-and-a-half months of learning the flute. A few months later, she then achieved the Advanced Certificate, followed by the LRSM diploma. Kate was subsequently a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.
At the age of 17, Kate caught the attention of International Soloist, Jonathan Snowden, who spotted Katie's talent and took her on as his student, despite him being a teacher who, at that time, usually taught only postgraduate flautists and professional musicians. She would then travel 120 miles from Carmarthenshire, for regular 2-hour lessons with Jonathan at his home in Somerset, and had to relearn the flute from scratch!
Kate subsequently accepted a place to study flute at the prestigious and internationally renown Guildhall School of Music, London, in affiliation with City University of London. Katie majored in flute performance, studying with Averil Williams, Katy Gainham, and Chris Hankin along side musicological studies, and graduated with a BMus honours degree, with 1st class in Guildhall Flute Performance. After graduating, she continued her flute studies with the world-renown flautist, Paul Edmund-Davies. During her musical training, Kate also had the opportunity to study with such eminent flautists as: William Bennett, Emmanuel Pahud, Robert Dick, in the context of international masterclasses and summer schools.
A recipient of several awards and prizes, such as the ABRSM 'High Scorer' whilst in her youth, Kate is a previous prize-winner of the International Young Artist Competition (2004), and has been invited to give concerto performances and recitals around the world. Although primarily a soloist, Katie is also experienced in chamber and orchestral work. Katie is experienced in performing all genres of flute music - classical, contemporary (extended techniques, etc.), light jazz, folk, new age.
In addition to being a professional flautist holding traditional Music qualifications, Kate's sharp intellect and eclectic interests have also subsequently led her to follow a parallel career in journalism and academia, whilst also working as a performing musician and a music teacher. Kate writes for the BBC, and also holds a University of London Masters Degree in Medical Law from Queen Mary University, London and a Masters in Law from The University of Law.
Kate has been teaching for 17 years both privately and in schools. and is also a flute teacher at Guildhall School of Music for their Young Artists Islington programme. All of Katie's students have achieved a 100% pass rate in their ABRSM and Trinty exams, most passing with distinction. Kate is experienced in teaching students of all ages and abilities, including children with special needs. Many of Kate's students have gone on to achieve full music scholarships at some of the top independent schools, as well as obtaining places in the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain. Some have gone on to study Music at Oxford, and also at the Royal College of Music and Guildhall Junior Department. Other students range from being fellow professional musicians, school music teachers, members of ABRSM staff, professors, lawyers, doctors, nurses, bankers, Parliamentary researchers, civil servants, university and college students.
